Toyota Issues Another Recall of RAV4 and Lexus Vehicles

Last year, Toyota recalled various models of its RAV4 SUVs and Lexus HS 250h sedans due to a problem with the rear suspension nuts that placed drivers and passengers at risk of getting into auto accidents. Now, the automaker is issuing a second recall because the repairs from the previous recall were not carried out correctly. According to a recent Associated Press article that was posted on Global News website (reported from Detroit), the current Toyota recall affects a total of 880,584 RAV4 SUVs and Lexus HS 250h sedans. This number consists of 780,584 in the United states and 100,000 in Canada. The recalled vehicles include the 2006 through 2011 models of the RAV4 SUV and the 2010 models of the Lexus HS250h, the Associated Press Reported.

Toyota has stated that if there is a failure to properly tighten these vehicles' rear suspension nuts after wheel alignments, the vehicles' rear lower suspension arms can end up rusting and becoming detached, according to the news story. This problem increases the chances of a car accident occurring. As noted in the article, a spokesperson for Toyota stated that the procedure used to repair the affected vehicles in last year's recall was incorrect and that the automaker's technicians are receiving more training this time around. It was not clear whether the errors from the last recall were due to technicians failing to correctly follow procedures or Toyota providing them with incorrect instructions.

As noted by the Associated Press, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received reports of at least nine accidents and three injuries that are linked to the issue with the RAV4 and Lexus vehicles. Furthermore, both the NHTSA and Toyota have received complaints from at least 131 owners of these vehicles concerning the problem.

When auto manufacturers and others in the auto industry do not make or repair their vehicles properly, they place many innocent people's lives at risk. This is simply not acceptable.
