Monroe County Road Commissioner Facing Third Drunk Driving Offense

According to local police, recently elected Monroe County Road Commissioner, Stephen Pace, was arrested on Saturday, May 1st after being involved in an apparent drunk driving accident. The accident took place when Pace allegedly ran into a tree on his way home. The impact of the crash was significant enough to cause the bumper of his van to fall off, however Pace did not stop at the scene of the accident, instead he continued to his place of residence. Police were able to locate Pace, and his damaged vehicle, after a neighbor reported hearing the crash. Despite Pace's conflicting reports to the arresting officers, as to the amount of alcohol he had consumed that evening, the police report shows Pace appeared intoxicated during questioning, and was unable to maintain his balance during sobriety tests. He also had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .19, which is more than double the legal limit in the state of Michigan. Pace is currently free on a $5,000 bond, however he has been charged with his third drunk driving offense, which is a felony offense.
