Product Liability - Fall Hazard Leads to Recall of Graco High Chairs

The legal career of an experienced Detroit personal injury lawyer is based around protecting the rights of people who have sustained personal injury in accidents, as well as keeping the public informed of safety recalls that can keep all families safe. Deficient products can create extreme hazards for users, whether the device malfunctioned due to poor construction or contained too much of a dangerous substance. Products made for babies and small children need to be crafted especially carefully, ensuring that infants not only are secured, but also that all small pieces they could choke on are out of reach. In a recent, and similar care, many popular high chairs used for small children have been recalled after posing a falling hazard, resulting in severe personal injury.

On March 18th, Graco Children’s Products Inc. voluntarily recalled approximately 1.2 million high chairs after many children sustained personal injury while sitting in them. The Harmony High Chairs, manufactured in the United States, was recalled largely due to construction problems. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the screws that hold the front legs together can loosen causing the high chair to become unstable. Additionally, product liability accidents occurred when the plastic bracket on the back of the high chair cracked, causing the high chair to flip over unexpectedly.

As a result of the product deficiency, a number of small children sustained personal injury because the high chair malfunctioned. Graco received approximately 464 reports total, attributing the problem to screws that fell out or a cracked plastic bracket that caused the high chair to become unstable and tip over. In total, 24 children were injured because of the product deficiency. Known injuries vary, ranging from bruises, scratches, lacerations, and even a minor fracture to the arm.

The Harmony High Chairs sold from November 2003 to December 2009, are all included in the recall. As of the present date, Graco has stopped producing the defective high chairs, which were sold at major retailers nationwide. Consumers who have a Harmony High Chair are highly encouraged to stop using the device immediately, to prevent further personal injury from occurring. Graco offers a free repair kit for all consumers, so that they may ensure the high chair is safe for use.

For answers, as well as the best legal advice and legal representation, it is essential to contact a hard-working Detroit product liability lawyer for help as soon as possible. Doing so can help ensure the most successful outcome for your personal injury claim.
