Chrysler Recalling Nearly 500,000 Jeeps Due to Electrical Issue Which Could Cause the Vehicles to Shift into Neutral on Their Own

Chrysler recently announced they will be issuing a worldwide vehicle recall of 469,000 SUVs, including Jeep Grand Cherokees built between February 11, 2004 and March 9, 2010, and Jeep Commanders built between January 31, 2005 and March 10, 2010. The recall is being issued due to an electrical problem which could cause the vehicles to automatically shift from park to neutral, thus increasing the risk of the vehicles rolling away on their own. While there were no fatalities reported as a result of the electrical issue, the malfunction allegedly caused 26 separate accidents and at least two injuries. The recall will officially go in effect in June 2013, when owners will be notified to visit their local Chrysler dealer to have the applicable repairs made, free of charge.
