Detroit Rock Legend Survives Head-On Collision With Suspected Drunk Driver

During the evening hours of February 1st, 2013 Detroit rock legend, Mitch Ryder, and his wife were returning to their home in South Lyon, following Ryder's performance at Callahan's Music Hall in Auburn Hills, when they were struck head-on by a suspected drunk driver. The couple was apparently only a mile and a half from their house when the car accident took place. According to reports from the singer himself, Ryder and his wife were driving along Kent Lake Road, just north of Silver Lake Road, when a pickup truck going the opposite direction swerved into their lane.

Ryder attempted to avoid the collision, after the truck crossed over into their lane, however was unable to get his vehicle to the shoulder of the road in time. As a result, the suspected drunk driver ended up hitting Ryder's vehicle head-on, on the driver's side. All of the vehicle's airbags deployed, so neither Ryder, his wife, nor their passenger sustained any serious or life-threatening injuries. Ryder's wife was admitted to the hospital for minor injuries she sustained during the accident. The pickup truck driver, a 21-year-old South Lyon man, failed field sobriety tests administered at the scene and reported to officers that he had simply bent over to adjust his radio when the accident took place. There is no report as to what injuries, if any, the suspected drunk driver sustained.

Being involved in a car accident can be an extremely painful experience, both physically and emotionally. Even when you are taking reasonable precautions and following the rules of the road, accidents can happen. When a car accident occurs as a result of another driver's negligence, neglect or outright disregard for the safety of others, such as can be seen in drunk driving accidents, it can be even more painful as these types of accidents are 100% preventable had the driver simply not gotten behind the wheel of their vehicle.
