MI Safety Matters - Detroit Colleges Offer Motorcycle Safety Courses

Throughout the career of an experienced Detroit personal injury lawyer, a number of clients are represented who have sustained severe personal injury or died as the result of an accident. Some of the most deadly are motorcycle accidents, which account for one out of every nine U.S. roadway fatalities in 2009. With such a growing number of deaths due to motorcycle collisions, it has become one of the nation’s top highway safety concerns. To combat this, several local Detroit colleges are offering motorcycle safety courses in an effort to keep all of those riding a motorcycle safe.

Starting March 19th, a motorcycle safety program will be offered at a number of local colleges including: Schoolcraft College, Henry Ford Community College, Macomb Community College, Monroe Community College, Oakland Community College, St. Clair Community College and Wayne County Community College. The courses will range in skill level from basic to advanced. The Basic Rider Course will be geared toward riders with minimal knowledge/experience and is looking to receive his or her motorcycle endorsement. More advanced classes will also be offered for licensed cyclists who have extensive experience on a motorcycle. After successful completion of the course, the Secretary of State will waive the skills test required for becoming a licensed motorcyclist. However, the applicant will still need to take a short written test at the time of licensure.

For a small fee of $25, motorcycle enthusiasts can get the latest and most updated safety tips for riding their cycle. It is clear that many students have taken advantage of the courses–since the motorcycle safety program was started in 1999, over 41,771 students have been trained.

Because motorcycle accidents can have serious consequences, including severe personal injury or death, all individuals planning on riding a cycle are encouraged to invest in a safety program, such as this one. The results of these incidents are devastating, and can leave an injured person with several questions regarding their injuries. For answers, as well as the best legal advice and legal representation possible, it is important to contact a hard-working Detroit motorcycle lawyer as soon as possible. Doing so can help ensure the most positive outcome for your personal injury claim.
