MI Car Accident - UM Bus Hits Cop Car Injuring 3 People on Ann Arbor Campus

While pedestrians and bicyclists compose most of university campus traffic, almost all colleges have school sponsored buses that can transport students from one end of campus to another. Although it serves as a means for carless students to get around, the large size of a bus makes it a force to be reckoned with on the road–a smaller car or even sport utility vehicle would be destroyed if involved in an accident with a bus, likely causing personal injury to those involved. Such incidents are seen all too often by an experienced Detroit personal injury lawyer practicing near university campuses, much like the recent case where a University of Michigan bus plowed into the back of a pulled over patrol car.

In the morning hours of April 16th, a University of Michigan police officer had stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Fuller Road and Glazier Way. As he sat inside his Chevy Tahoe patrol car, a university bus slammed into the back of his sport utility vehicle. According to UM Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Diane Brown, the force from the Michigan bus accident caused the patrol car into shoot forward into the pulled over vehicle, sending it about 75 feet before stopping.

As a result of the Michigan bus crash, the bus driver, police officer, and motorist in the pulled over vehicle were taken to the University of Michigan Hospital for medical attention. The impact from the accident caused the officer to smack his head and crack the windshield. Fortunately, all three people involved had non life-threatening and minor injuries.

The incident is being investigated by the Ann Arbor Police Department, as the accident involved two UM vehicles. Although they are still unsure of how the crash occurred or how fast the bus was traveling, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this case.

University campuses not only have several pedestrians and bicyclists, but buses as well. Just like those traveling by foot or bike, it is important to always pay the utmost attention to the road and be on the lookout for buses. Because buses are rather large, a Michigan bus accident can cause severe personal injury to those involved, whether the victim be a pedestrian, bicyclist, or another motorist. Because of the serious nature of these incidents, it is essential to contact a hard-working and dedicated Detroit bus accident lawyer immediately. Acting immediately will not only provide the best legal advice and legal representation, but also help ensure the most successful outcome for your personal injury claim.
